1. What do you do? What does a normal day look like?

My role has a lot of different areas which is really exciting.  Each day I begin with website visual merchandising. This is to make sure the categories of our website look clean and inviting for customers to shop and are creatively sorted into colours and what is trending. I then send out all the EDMS. Once I'm given the brief from our Creative Brand Manager and the graphics from our Graphic Designer I build the EDM and schedule out. Majority of my role is too also look after Influencers. So each day I spend most of my time researching new influencers, reaching out to new and old influencers, negotiating with agencies and with the help of our Creative Brand Manager I lock in the collaborations. This includes paid influencers, big and small, as well as finding micro-influencers who I can gift some product to in exchange for content on different platforms. Another major part of my role is helping our Social Media Coordinator, create content. This includes helping on any social shoots and taking in house content such as flat lays and making TikToks.

2. Tell us about your background and how you got here?

I just finished my Bachelor of Communications Degree at UTS, where I majored in Digital Marketing and minored in Public Relations. I spent half of 2019 living and studying in NYC which was what really concreted the idea of working in the Fashion/PR industry. This as well as working 9 years in fashion retail/styling and loving every minute. I've also been lucky enough to grow up travelling around with family and friends and building relationships everywhere I go. I believe this has played a major part in getting me where I am today.  Anyone that knows me knows that I love fashion, socialising, travelling and I'm extremely outgoing with a life that is go, go, go. It was never a question that this kind of career was for me.

3. How did you score a job in the fashion industry? Any tips?

Once I built some connections in NYC I was left a little stuck when COVID-19 affected my next steps. Luckily I was able to score an internship at a fashion brand at the beginning of 2020. Even when my internship ended I still offered myself on photo shoots so I could learn more. Turns out I was there for over 8 months and yes, for free. This taught me so much and led me to other opportunities including to continue freelance styling and building my portfolio. It's also important to consider simple things such as creating a LinkedIn profile and begin researching. Hot tip, search your dream job, find out who is in that position and get in contact! If not, it's easy to gauge how they got there! I also spent hours on LinkedIn searching for internship opportunities once leaving Uni because I honestly believe in proving yourself and making connections rather than settling for a mediocre job that pays you to be unhappy. For me it was never about the money, it was about a foot in the door and a chance to prove myself at brands I LOVE. I honestly got so lucky to get one so fast!

4. What is your favourite part about your job?

It's really exciting getting to know different influencers as well as building relationships, but I would have to say the favourite part of my job is getting to come to work everyday with like-minded and creative people. Honestly, what I love the most is when we sit and discuss our plans, our ideas and we all bounce off one another. It's a really exciting thing to be a part of and it's so incredibly exciting when you see ideas come to life, on an international platform. Also, not many people get to have a career in what their passionate about, nor get to do it with people they can call friends!

5. If you had to pick one piece of clothing that best describes you, what would you pick?

If I had to pick one piece of clothing that best describes me it would be a suit jacket, or a set/co-ord (especially ones that include the suit jacket). I always feel like my true self when i'm wearing something like that and no matter if you have heels or sneakers on, you're always going to be a vibe and ready for any occasion.

6. What is your number one styling tip?

It's a hard one, as I could go on forever. Something that I have found works best for me is always having a nice set of gold earrings, a dainty gold necklace, and my gold rings I never take off. I'm not massive when it comes to accessorising, but as long as I have my subtle go-to pieces I feel like I could be wearing jeans, a white t-shirt, and sneakers and still look slick and expensive. Also, having the right bag is massively important. Side note - I hate when people don't steam they're clothes. I'm a nazi when it comes to ironing my clothes! Also, having my whites crisp and freshly soaked in Napisan!
