Seven LGBTQ Style Icons We Look Up To

Even at a glance, members of the LGBTQ+ community have contributed to the world of fashion in leaps and bounds! Without them, we wouldn't have trailblazing styles and beloved international brands we know today. (Oh, gosh, can you imagine what fashion trends would be like today without them? THE HORROR!) As Pride month sadly comes to a close, we celebrate the final weeks by showcasing our top fave pioneers of style!

Hayley Kiyoko

The 'Girls Like Girls' singer and dubbed 'Lesbian Jesus' by her fanbase is our queen of quirky and colour popping! Aside from her awesome vocals, she's the kind of pop artist that makes us glad we're living in this era!  Since her big 2015 hit, the singer's advocacy for the LGBTQ+ continues to grow! If we need a little bit colour theory inspo, with some edgy finishes and trimmings thrown into the mix, Hayley is definitely our go-to girl!

Janelle Monáe

According to Janelle, she "Only dates androids!", an illusion to her elusive music alter-ego. An avid supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and a proud pansexual, and non-binary person, Janelle is as fierce and forward-thinking in her personality as well as her fashion sense. She breaks boundaries of artistic expression, not just in music, but her bomb-ass red carpet looks! Janelle's style is forever evolving, in her event wear to her music videos. Find her slaying an all black and white geometric suit to dressing in ruby red from head to toe! One word for her style: Fearless!

David Rose (Dan Levy)

Yeah, we know he's a character but David Rose from Schitt's Creek is a total mood! I mean "I like the wine, not the label!" Yaasss! That is the kind of vibe we live for. Our beloved pansexual is our king of knitwear, and we need that right now since we're in winter and all. Although he's mostly known for his limited colour palette throughout the show, David has the ability to achieve some refreshing new looks with his greys, whites, and blacks. We only wish we were that creative.

Billy Porter

This star knows how to make a grand entrance, and we're all for the spotlight babe! Although the multi-talented theatre has been blessing the red carpet with a multitude of jaw-dropping vibes, his most recent stunt at the 2019 Met Gala sold it for us! Dressed like a gilded angel, we had to put him on the list of our fave style icons! Since then, the singer has earned his title as our go-to for high-impact silhouettes, and sparkling metallics.

Jason Wu

We had to have at least one leading fashion designer of ... well, our time, heh heh. It would be completely remiss of us if we didn't include a trailblazer like the talented Jason Wu in our list. Despite being in his mid-thirties, the openly gay fashion designer has since established a beloved international brand, worn by many like Meghan Markle and Michelle Obama. If we're going for the Boss Babe approach, we turn to Wu's daring, figure-flattering and elegant silhouettes!

Ezra Miller

Okay, this copywriter here has a little bit of an obsession with actor Ezra Miller, ever since she saw them on Perks of Being a Wallflower and We Need To Talk About Kevin. Ezra, who identifies as 'Queer', has an otherworldly appeal that is just striking. They may be a bit of a recluse when it comes to interviews, but on the red carpet, the actor goes ALL out! Especially in recent years, Miller has been expressive and eclectic when it comes to makeup, clothing, and accessories. We can only look forward to what the actor will unveil next!

Samira Wiley

OITNB and The Handmaid's Tale Tv Star Samira Wiley is a born boss babe and style icon. She also seems like a lovely person to hang around! A forthright, lesbian woman, Wiley's style is iconic in her love for playing with textures and silhouettes. She can make anything look effortlessly chic, from the eye-catching two-piece dress above to more edgy metallic garb.
