How To Tie-Dye Your Fave Loungewear With Alcohol

The full red wine immersion

If you're after the classic tie-dye technique, a good red wine tie-dye is a seasonal must!

Step 1:

Take your fave loungewear edit or tee and bind the garment with rubber bands or string as you so choose. You can fold it into a triangle, have it rolled etc.

Step 2:

Fill a plastic, tub with inexpensive red wine. If you're looking to tie-dye hoodies, you will probably need four bottles to fill the tub and fully immerse the garment.

 Step 3:

Leave the garment in the tub for six or seven hours. If you're after a less vivid print, dye it for less hours. If you're dyeing a lightweight jersey tee, you will probably only need to dye it for about four hours at most.

Step 4:

Carefully remove the tie-dyed garments and place them on a plastic drop sheet for an hour.

Step 5:

Remove the strings and elastic. Hang the garment out to dry completely before rinsing the excess alcohol out.

Midori, Blue Curacao, Red Wine & Aperol Tie-Dye

Not a fan of just one colour? Babe, the drip dye tie-dyeing technique is for you. Here's how you do it!

Step 1:

Take your fave loungewear edit or tee and bind the garment with rubber bands or string as you so choose. You can fold it into a triangle, have it rolled etc.

Step 2:

On a plastic drop sheet, carefully drip the Midori, Blue Curacao, Red Wine, or Aperol onto the garment, spreading the alcohol randomly. We recommend repeating this step in order for the colour to fully soak through the fabric.

Step 3:

Wrap the garments in individual plastic bags and leave overnight. Leave for six hours or less if you desire a more pastel, subdued print.

Step 4:

Remove the strings and elastic. Hang the garment out to dry completely before rinsing the excess alcohol out.

Caring your outfit:

Here's how you can extend the life of your tie-dye creation.

All you need to do to set tie dye into your projects and prevent your projects from fading is soak the project overnight in vinegar before washing it in the machine. Just place it in a bucket, allow to soak for at least 30 minutes. Remove the garment from the bucket, and then proceed to machine wash!
