DIY glitter eggs

Chocolate, family, chocolate, public holidays, chocolate – what’s not to get excited about at Easter?! We’re having a bit of fun with the theme and creating chic glitter eggs – and you can, too! Use them to decorate your pad, as pretty centrepieces or, if there are kids around, hide them in the garden and send the little guys on an Easter egg hunt!

To make these dazzling creations, you'll need a pin or craft knife, glue, glitter (try gold or silver for an elegant option that goes with most décor) and eggs – duh! They can be the real deal, or you can save time and pick up pre-blown versions at a craft shop. Let’s get crackin’!

1

Carefully poke a hole in each end of the egg - use a hammer to gently tap the pin in if you're having trouble piercing it. Stir up the inside of the egg and then blow – with your mouth or a straw - the yolk and whites out of the egg. Rinse the shell and leave out to dry.

2

If you're keen on an Easter egg hunt, make one of the holes bigger and put a little Easter note inside for a sweet surprise!

3

Pour white glue into a bowl – you can dilute it with water if need be. Dip one end of the egg in the glue, and then dab off thick blobs with a paper towel. Sprinkle the gluey bit with glitter and then sit it back into the carton (non-glittered side down) to dry. For the striped effect, wrap two pieces of sticky tape parallel around the egg, leaving an even, straight line in between them. Using a paint brush, paint the space with glue and then remove the tape. Sprinkle with glitter and set out to dry. For polka dots, dip your finger in the glue, and dab spots onto the eggs. Sprinkle with glitter and set out to dry.

4

Once your eggs are dry, take a paint brush and paint a thin layer of glue over the top. This will keep the glitter in place and give your egg a polished, glossy finish.

HACK:

No glue and glitter? No worries! Create a beautiful marble pattern on your eggs using nothing but water and nail polish! Simply fill a bowl with water and drip a few drops of nail polish on the surface. You can use one colour (gold and silver look lovely) or multiple complementary hues for a bright effect. Using a toothpick, delicately marble the polish into the desired pattern and then roll your egg on the surface. Voila! Pretty, easy eggs.

Egg-cellent idea, right? LOL!

We’ll see ourselves out…
